interstices V – hors-champ
for flute and string quartet (2021)

duration: 5 min.

Commissioned by Festival d’Autan

Hors-champ is the last piece of the Interstices cycle, which explores different ways to integrate into the writing medium the spatial distribution of the concert and the resulting acoustic space. In the concert hall, the string quartet is spread around a central soloist flute, so that visual coordination is supplanted by that of the ear. The score thus no longer relies on a hierarchical measurement of duration but explores the close landscape between the physical constraints of the players and the temporal structures of algorithmics: parallelisms, synchronizations and couplings.

Premiere

July 20, 2021 at Festival d’Autan by José-Daniel Castellon and Adastra quartet.
